Geocache Description:

There are views over the Yarrh (Yass) plains from near the cache on this prominent mountain in the area.

Some early visitors to the mountain (who may have been looking for this cache!) wrote the following:

"Monday, October 18 1824.--They start about seven this morning, their
route lying across an extensive range of hills, S. This range
which is of moderate elevation, lies between their last station and
Yarrh. In crossing this range they marked the trees, in the course
of their route, with an axe. The range itself, extending in the
directions N W. and by N. and S E. and by S. consists of poor land
but thickly wooded. About noon Mr. Hovel ascended an elevation on
the top of the range, at a little distance on the right hand of
their route, which they named "Mount Lookout." From this hill
there is a pleasing view of the country* in their advance,
consisting of plains skirted by fine extensive forest, and this
bounded to the Southward by mountains."

Mount Lookout is now know as Mount Mundoonen.

I spent a bit of time in my younger days wandering this area, which is not really that well known even though many people travel along the highway that cuts through the range.

Parking is either at S34 49.770 E149 02.902, where you can cross under the road, or turn off opposite this parking area and follow the dirt road. There is some level ground suitable for parking before the start of the sealed road.

The cache is located amongst the trees just down from the summit. If you walk about 40M down to the fence (please dont cross) you will get a good view of the plains.

Small Sistema container. Room for small swaps only.

Please make sure the container is closed and replace the cache as found
