This cache is so named being the first geocache at Wildwood State Park. The park is open year round sunrise to sunset. I have made this a little more difficult for the adventurous geocacher. It is about a mile hike or bike to the trail that leads to the cache. The last couple hundred yards of this hike is on a narrow trail exposed to the bluffs.
This is only suggested in dry weather. Erosion is real possibility here so be alert. The last 50 to 75 feet down to the cache is very steep. Please do not venture down the bluffs beyond the geocache. It can be quite steep and dangerous, not to mention the erosion you would be causing. The trail to the cache is pretty well established and packed down but steep. There are several thorn bushes near the cache so beware. I placed this in the colder weather so in warmer months look for poison ivy.

New York State Geocache Permit # 933
I have been camping, hiking, cross country skiing, biking and snowshoeing in this park for years. It is a gorgeous state park on the North Shore of Suffolk County near Wading River. The view from these bluffs is amazing. Hard to believe you’re on Long Island when you see them. I was surprised to see there were no geocaches here so I figured I would get the ball rolling. Look for additional caches to follow this one as this park has a wonderful hiking loop with a wide easy to follow trail. This is the trail you will follow for most of the way to the cache. This trail is a great hiking or biking trail. If you’re biking on this trail, don’t attempt the last couple hundred yards by bike. I walked my bike to the last 50 to 75 feet and left my bike at the top and hiked down to the cache. Good luck and enjoy the views!
