Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Cambridgeshire town of Wisbech and continues the series
“Poppies on Parade” which was created by Mr Nibbler.

Like every village, town and city in the UK, Wisbech has sent its sons and daughters to serve at sea, on land and in the air. For those who failed to return, almost every settlement in the UK has a dedicated monument at which the fallen are remembered every year.

You will be taken to the war memorial situated in The Crescent, which is also home to
Wisbech Castle. Originally constructed in 1087 by William the Conqueror, the Castle was subsequently rebuilt in 1478, and became the Palace of the Bishops of Ely. In 1656 the Palace was demolished to accommodate Thurloe's Mansion, which was replaced during 1816 with the Regency Villa that we see today. This was constructed by Joseph Medworth who also developed The Crescent.

Nearby is the Wisbech & Fenland Museum which houses an interesting display of militaria and offers free admission between 10am and 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Public transport and free parking is available at the Horsefair (maximum stay 3 hours). The Crescent is a five minute walk away, well signposted and easily accessible via the Market Place.

The cache is NOT hidden on the memorial and the site is overlooked by residents and passers-by, so stealth is required at all times. Please treat the area with respect and keep a watchful eye on any children who might accompany you.

You are looking for a nano cache with a just a tiny logbook inside so please remember to bring your own pen/pencil and just add the date and your initials, making sure that the cache is carefully replaced so that it remains well out of view.

Finally, please spare a thought for those whose names are inscribed here:

When you go home tell them of us and say:
"For your tomorrow we gave our today"
.
