Shiratori shrine sits atop the summit of Mt. Miyama(commonly known as Mt. Shiratori) at an altitude of 453 meters.
When the main shrine was rebuilt in 1910, it turned out that it was built on an ancient tomb.
According to the records of this shrine after Yamatotakerunomikoto, Emperor Keikou's son, died in Ise, one white bird took wing out of the coffin which held his remains.
This white bird made a tour of Yamato, Kawachi, and Sanuki, and, finally disappeared at the summit of this mountain.

白鳥神社は標高453ｍの御山（通称 白鳥山）山頂に建てられている神社で本郷町の楽音寺に残されている鎌倉時代に書かれた『安芸国明神帳』には「二位白鳥明神」と記載されており、古くから格式が高かったことがうかがわれます。
明治43(1910）年に本殿を改築した時、古墳の上に建てられていたことがわかりました。
その時に箱型石棺から三角縁神獣鏡１面、神獣鏡１面、碧玉製勾玉１個、素環頭太刀１振が出土しています。
縁起によると景行天皇の時代に天皇の息子の日本武尊が伊勢国で死去した後、その遺骸を納めた棺の中から一羽の白い鳥が飛び立ち大和、河内、讃岐の各国をめぐって最後にこの山頂で姿を消したと伝わっています。
