This cache is located along old Route 66.
It was July of 1962. My family, consisting of my three siblings and
our parents, loaded our suitcases onto the luggage rack of our
brand new Ford Falcon station wagon and off we headed to visit
relatives in New Mexico, California, and Washington. We
hadn’t been on the road much more than an hour when one of
our suitcases decided to take a flying leap. Of course, I-40 was
non-existent, so Route 66 was the main east-west highway. This
probably isn’t the exact spot, but it was somewhere near
here, along this very road, where the suitcase decided to ditch the
car. Luckily, we saw the suitcase take off, and I don’t
remember losing anything, but the suitcase was very scraped and
scratched. Although we were still young, that trip holds many
memories for my siblings and me, some happy, some not so happy, but
we will always remember the flying suitcase. Please pull well off
the road when you park. This stretch of the highway isn't very
busy, but someone coming over the hill might not see you in time to
stop, if they are going very fast. Congratulations to
Smokeybearsden for the FTF!!
