Geocache Description:

Adventure by the Sea

Icacos is one of the islands off the Northeast tip of Puerto Rico, which form the Cordillera Keys Nature Reserve. The Cordillera Nature Reserve is composed by Palomino, Palominito, Diablo, Lobos, Ratones, Icacos and many large rocks such as Cucaracha. They are administered by the Department of Natural Resources of Puerto Rico (DRNA). Palomino and Lobos are private islands.

Please, bring waterproof sunscreen, lots of water, food, appropriate footwear, a beach umbrella, towel, a dry sack and extra clothing. Icacos is a deserted small island and there are no facilities. You must bring everything and remove all your trash. Open fires are not permitted, but barbeques are tolerated. The beach is relatively clean, but CITO is always welcome.

If you want to have a great experience while looking for this cache, do not forget to bring your camera, snorkeling equipment and floating devices. Have fun!

How you get there?

There are several ways you can go to Icacos. Below, I will tell you 3 of them and you may pick the one that better fits you.

(1) If you have a privately owned boat, you can go by yourself at no cost.

(2) There are water taxies that leave from Las Croabas. At the end of the road there is a small cove with lots of boats at anchor and two docks. The boats at the cement dock are the licensed and responsible captains. Look for Captain Mingo in the bright yellow boat or try the others at the cement dock. You may call to make your reservation. If you want to go but do not want to make reservation, just show up at Las Croabas and take the chance, the boat captains usually hang out by the dock. They are very flexible about dates and times of pick-up and drop-off.

Contact numbers:

Captain Mingo: (787) 383-6509 / Captain Domingo: (787) 299-2830 / Captain Reynaldo: (787) 562-4226

The round trip price is $100 for 4 people or less. More than 4 people, the cost is $25 per person (max 6 per boat trip). The minimum time is 5 hours.

(3) I go frequently to Icacos on my friend's boat. If you want to make the arrangements to go with us, feel free to contact me through my profile.

The cache is a regular container. The original content is a "Rite in the Rain" notebook and some goodies. Please, use your best stealth techniques. BYOP
