As his popularity and his activity achievements all over Japan, his
work is described in various media not only on his historical fact
but also with fiction. Many organizations related with him made
some monuments, have events about him. Here Tachiaigawa is one of
them, there was Tosa-clan's villa at Edo-period. When the black
ships came to Japan from U.S.A. at late Edo-period, Tosa-clan's
officer called him to their villa for defensive duties. At this
location, there was a plastic statue sent from Kochi-prefecture (is
Tosa at Edo-period) previously, the new bronze one was established
recently. The old one was looked the same age as famous it at
Katsurahama in Kochi, but the new one is looked younger as he
stayed here.

坂本龍馬は日本史の登場人物の中でも最も人気のある人物のひとりです。
その人気を反映して、史実はもちろんのこと虚構を交えた小説・ドラマなどでもその活躍が様々に語られています。彼は出身地の土佐から始まり江戸から薩摩まで広範囲に活躍し、全国各地にその足跡を残しています。龍馬ゆかりの地では人気にあやかって様々なイベントが催されたり石碑や銅像などの建立が行われてきました。ここ京急立会川の駅近辺もそんな場所のひとつで、このあたりに薩摩藩の下屋敷があり、龍馬が土佐から江戸に遊学していた時にちょうど黒船が来航し、江戸および藩邸守備のためにこの屋敷に召集されその任に就いたそうです。この座標の位置には以前、高知県から送られたプラスチック製の像がありましたが、新たにブロンズ製の像が製作されました。元々の像は、有名な高知・桂浜の像と同じ年齢の龍馬の姿でしたが、新しい像はこの立会川にいた頃の年齢に若返らせているそうです。
