Bunker Hill Fishing-REDONE REDUX Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ninja Reviewer: As there has been no cache to find for a long time, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

Parking is available in the golf course parking lot next to the cache. -->You do not have to use force or pry on anything. You do not need to take anything apart. Please do not damage doors and do not disturb the nearby ground water monitoring station (padlocked).<-- This version of the cache was created in June 2015

This cache used to be a four stage multi but during its four year life span it was muggled and vandalized quite a bit. Recent construction in the area has removed the best stages of the old multi-cache and it just could not be duplicated so it is now a single stage cache. It broke my heart to have to change it, especially since it accumulated 45 favorites in that time. But the cache is still where it has been all these years and it will still challenge you.
If you want to go fishing you need a fishing rod. If you want to go geocaching here, you will need something like a fishing rod to extend your reach a little. You are a geocacher, so you are creative and persistent. I am sure you will figure it out.
Start at the bunker entrance. It should not be hard to find. It is built into the hillside and consists of two large ventilated steel doors that are welded shut. Use your tool to gently recover the log container. Please carefully replace the container as found when you are done.
The golf course manager, Tim, has given cachers permission to park there and access the cache area. This is best done in daylight hours and should be fun for kids. Bring a flash light so you can see deep inside. It goes waaaaay back.
This industrial/air park used to be an Air Force base before it was converted to a business area. This structure was near the end of a runway back then and was used as a protected pumping station for water and fuel.

The following information is posted on a nearby historic plaque:

"DONALDSON AIR FORCE BASE / CAPTAIN JOHN O. DONALDSON (Front) Greenville Army Air Base opened on this site in 1942 and trained B-25 bomber crews during World War II. Emphasizing air transport after 1945 and renamed Donaldson Air Force Base in 1951, it was home to C-124 transports and called “The Airlift Capital of the World” for its role in the Berlin airlift, Korean War, and Cold War. Closed in 1962, it has been an industrial park since 1963./ (Reverse) John Owen Donaldson (1897-1930), for whom the base was named, grew up in Greenville and attended Furman University and Cornell University before joining the British Royal Air Force in World War I. He became an ace, shooting down eight enemy planes, and was decorated by the United States, Great Britain, and Belgium. Davidson was killed in a plane crash at an air show in 1930./ Erected by the Donaldson Development Commission, 2002 County: Greenville Location: Marker 1: Just off Exchange St., at the Donaldson Center, Greenville; Marker 2: Kodak Rd., near its intersection with Perimeter Rd., at the Donaldson Center, Greenville Marker ID: 23-26
