Near these Centerville homes that housed the miners, and gallus frames that mined all that copper, is placed a geocache. This cache location has a great view of downtown Butte. It is easily accessible by car.
It gradually dawned upon the miners, the operators and many capitalists, that 'the Hill' was a veritable mountain of copper ores. Almost without exception it was found that in the mines of that portion of the hill lying south of Walkerville, around Centerville, the ores closest to the surface were rich in silver, but as depth was gained and the water level passed, copper ores predominated. The kids, in wintertime, once started their bobsleds at the top of the hill in Centerville and coasted nearly two miles to the cemeteries at the edge of the camp. Butte is different from all the cities of the world. There is only one Butte - there will never be another. Those who know her, love her, and wouldn't trade her for the most beautiful city on earth. This cache is watched and maintained by GrandPaButte when I am not in the area.
