Geocache Description:

The Owyhee canyons offer many scenic viewpoints. Although one of the more remote, this one offers some of the most spectacular, panoramic views of the canyonlands.

This cache is very, very remote. Although it can be reached from many different directions, it will be a long and grueling drive. Allow a full day for the expedition or an overnight of camping. At some point on the trip you will travel some rugged, primitive roads so do not attempt without a 4WD, high clearance vehicle. (ATV's should be fine as well.) Also, be aware of recent weather conditions. On the high desert plateaus, water can collect in very large puddles and mud holes making the going treacherous. As with any cache this remote, please go well equipped with plenty of food, water, fuel and good tires. Also, make sure someone knows your whereabouts.

The site of this cache is high above the South Fork of the Owyhee river. The views are so grand I try to get back here once a year. You'll want to allow plenty of time to soak it all in. Looking to the left from the cache site you're looking straight down the South Fork river gorge. Directly across the canyon you can see the plateau of Bull Camp Butte. From there spreading out to the right the upper edges of the canyon open up wide revealing a narrow river gorge within the much wider canyon. To the far right on the horizon the beautiful Jarbidge mountains are visible.

Aside from being one of the more breathtaking views of the canyonlands, it is also the location where the nearby gas pipeline crosses the canyon as well as a river crossing for properly equipped vehicles. On the approaches from both the north and south sides, the roads have very steep, rocky stretches with erosion gullies. So do not attempt to drive down to the river without a 4WD, high clearance vehicle equipped with rugged terrain tires. The river itself tends to flow slower and deeper here compared to the 45 Ranch crossing. For example, on a trip where I crossed both sites on the the same day, the water at the 45 crossing was about half way up my tires while the water here at the Devils Corral crossing was up to my doors. (Jeep Cherokee with 3in lift.)

The cache itself is a regular ammo can with a variety of stuff, some of which might come in handy in a remote spot like this. It is out of sight but shouldn't be too hard to find. If you're at a place where you can see all the views described above, you're close!
