Geocache Description:

Small cache close to the intersection of Thunderbolt Creek & Lightning Creek

It COULD be very very frightning if you go when there's high water, as this area is prone to some pretty serious flooding. On the upside, this is a beautiful spot, the steep, winding creek banks are fantastic & the sound of Thunderbolt Creek running is very soothing.

Cache location is pretty obvious, due to lack of leaf cover at time of placement. It is close to the roadside, so no need to venture any further in. However, there is a bit of a climb up a bank, through a couple of small trees & light undergrowth.

SAFETY:
These 2 creeks are notorious for flash flooding (Lightning Creek peaked at 16.79ft at this location in May 2012) & fast-flowing water, so PLEASE be careful here if the water is up. If you come in from the North, you will need to drive through Thunderbolt Creek itself, as the road dips down to go through it. I'd like to say it's a low water bridge, but you are really just driving through the creek LOL. And if you come in from the South, you will need to cross a low water bridge, which could be flooded. Also, there are signs posted that there are traps set in the wooded area, so please be safe & respectful by staying out!

And finally, please make sure the cache container top is put back on properly (should hear/feel it snap on 4 times) & it is securely clipped back on the wire, as it needs to be watertight & secure to survive the frequent flooding at this loaction.

Permission to place this cache in this location & in this manner has been obtained from the Crawford County Extension Office.

Congratulations to the intrepid trio of Spiritguide, Swmoguy & Nochange for joint FTF!! That's dedication - driving 33 miles in storms & pouring rain, plus a tornado watch, just for FTF status! LOL
