Svullerya Skole, bygget i 1920

I 1916 begynnte planene å ta form, arkitekt Berle stod bak tegningene.

ENGLISH: The plans to build this school started in 1916, architect Berle did the drawings, he was also the man behind the schools in Grinder, Refset and Skjelmerud. The building year for the school was in 1920 and the students and teacher started using it in 1921. Ragnhild Klemetsen and Ole Ormbergstøl were the teachers.

The building was built in 3 storages: in the basement they had a woodwork room, space for a school kitchen and showers. The local womens organization insisted on they build showers. Ground floor had 3 classrooms and a teachers room/matereal room, with its own corner for when the kids had behaved badly! 1st floor had a teachers apartement and a school room, witch was used as a dentist office when he came once a year. 2nd floor was also teachers appartement. The outdoor toilet was in the outhouse.

A new school was build in 1975/76 and when everyone moved there, the old school got new users. In 1977/78 they had a fishfood makery here and also a 2nd hand shop, but both lasted very short. Later, the basement woodwork room, was rented out to the local sports club, and they had their first club house here. On the ground floor it was a kindergarden and a little library, both has now moved to the new school.

Åsta Holth was also a teacher in arts and crafts at the school in the 50's.

Today the school is private owned, 2nd floor is an apartement, and the rest of the school is used by Norsk Skogfinnsk Museum (Norwegian/Finnish Museum).

The museum is open every Wednesday 12:00-19:00 if you would like to take a look...
