Geocache Description:

View Details for Tour Rattanakosin Island (Very old part of Bangkok)

The Royal Peir

Tha Ratchaworadit has been a pier for the Royal Barges for over 200 years since the beginning of the Rattanakosin Period. It was called Phra Chanuan Nam (Passage way to the river for the King and ladies of the Royal Palace). There have been many changes over time. There was a floating palace with five rooms with balconies all around. The king could observe the Loy Kratong Festival with all the lit kratongs floating down the river.

Under Rama II the floating palace was replaced by three smaller palaces on the river bank. Then under Rama IV the Palaces were demolished and a pool was built for the princes to swim.

This is a very beautiful location.
