Geocache Description:

View Details for Tour Rattanakosin Island (Very old part of Bangkok)

The Main Pier for Grand Palace

For more than 175 years this was the most used gateway in the country being the access to and from the Grand Palace. Bangkok was a water based city and river travel was the way to get about, there were no roads really to speak of. So stop and imagine for a moment that you are back in time 200 years.

This point would have been the busiest in the kingdom with Ambassadors, traders, nobles all landing here to interact with the court.

Today it is still a very busy transport hub with a large ammount of people still using the river as a form of transport.

This is a great place to rent a long tail boat if you have the resources and take a tour of the other side's cannals and rivers that pretty much still exist and have not been paved over for roads.

Take the time to Explore this market it is large and has a lot of very traditional things.

This is a great place to take a boat from to see the canals of the other side of Bangkok, Thonburi.
