On August 2, 2002 a large wind-storm swept
through Cloyne and surrounding areas, uprooting and breaking off
trees and damaging power lines. 45mm hail was recorded during
the storm. The storm was a microburst, a fast moving
downward column of wind, similar to a tornado. The microburst
caused one injury and one fatality as well as extensive damage to
property and trees.
As you drive in to this cache, look into the
forest and see the remains from this microburst. There are
many trees that are uprooted and fallen. The cache is hidden
in an area with significant damage. Take some time and look
around and see the force that storms like these have.
