Geocache Description:

You would EXPECT to see Stalactites in caves, but sometimes they show up in unexpected places.

This location is just off of one of the main trails in Rufffner Mountain Nature Preserve- one of Birmingham's best-kept secrets.

These stalactites have been growing on these industrial artifacts for many, many years, waiting for you to come discover them.

As you leave the main trail, be alert to remnants of barbed wire- so watch your step.

June 6, 2011- Increased the terrain from 1.5 to 2 because of a downed tree and poison ivy along your route.

There's room for a few small trade items in the cache. When we placed it there was a log book, pen, and mood ring.

This cache is placed with permission of Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve Management.

If you enjoy this hidden jewel adjacent to the city, please consider becoming a member of the Preserve. Click here for more information: http://ruffnermountain.org/get-involved/membership.html
