The cache is an ammo can located in the woods on the edge of White Oak Campground. There is room to park just off the road near the woodline, but you can pull into the campground, as well. Not wheelchair accessible. Permission was given to place this cache.
The cache is NOT accessible while on Interstate 20. You can take either exit 175 or exit 183 to reach the cache. Please do not park on the interstate.
The Boy Scouts of Troop 125, Thomson, Georgia, have placed this cache. We are working on earning one of the newest Boy Scout merit badges - Geocaching. The training for this merit badge taught us about the different types of caches, the rules for placing and finding geocaches, how the Global Positioning System works, and safety while geocaching. A highlight of our learning experience was an evening spent with Pilgrimsprogress, who shared with us their collection of containers, geocoins, and memorabilia from their time geocaching. We would like to thank the Pilgrims for coming to our meeting.
White Oak Campground was established in 1820 by the Augusta District, United Methodist Church, and is still used for meetings, camping, and recreation for Methodist churches in the CSRA. Troop 125 is sponsored by Thomson First United Methodist Church.
First To Find prize is a Boy Scout Oath Coin. There is also a geocoin proxy.
Edit: Congratulations to our simultaneous First To Finds - Pearl's Mom, Walacaw, and Smokeycrew.
