Geocache Description:

A smallish roadside lime kiln in quite good repair on a quiet lane between Beetham and Storth.  Probably built to serve a few local farms.

"Burning limestone, which is calcium carbonate, gives you quick lime, calcium oxide. Mixed with water this produces slaked lime, calcium hydroxide. When slaked lime or quick lime was added to the land it raised its pH and so improved its fertility. Slaked lime was also used as lime putty for building. This is soft when first mixed, but with time absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and hardens as it reverts back to calcium limestone." Industries of Cumbria

You can park close-by, opposite the farm track, but keep well in and watch for any large vehicles trying to turn up to the farm.  Access the kiln from the road, the cache is at the bottom of the kiln - the top is fenced off and there's not much to see.  There is no need to move any rocks at all in finding the cache, which is NOT hidden in any walls.  You're looking for a small L&L box.  BYOP
