Informationstafeln vor Ort helfen bei der Beantwortung der Fragen.
Note zum DNF vom 14.08.2011: Die oben angegebenen Koordinaten beziehen sich nicht auf den Standort der Informationstafeln, diese selbst sind auch nicht inmitten von Gestrüpp zu finden sondern frei zugänglich. Man sollte schon ein paar Minuten einplanen um das Gelände etwas zu untersuchen, dabei wird man auch die Informationstafeln entdecken.



       

Das Flächennaturdenkmal “Clydenberg“ steht seit 1937 unter Naturschutz. Das Gebiet gehört zu den Zechsteinriffen am Südrand der Orlasenke. Die Riffe kommen im Raum um die Orlasenke in großer Vielfältigkeit vor und wurden in grauer Urzeit als harte, gewaltige Kalkriffe von sog. Moostierchen “gebaut“. Diese Tierchen waren u.a. Kalkalgen, Muschelkrebse, Brachiopoden aber auch Fische.

 
Das über lange Zeit aus den Schalen- und Überresten dieser Tierchen entstandene Gestein wird auch als “biodetritischer Mergelkalk” bezeichnet. Es ist ein in Wasser leicht zerfallendes Gestein und enthält eine enorme Artenvielfalt, wie es für kein anderes Gestein aus dem Zeitraum des Oberen Perm zutrifft. Dieser poröse Kalkstein wurde früher auch als Höhlenkalkstein bezeichnet. Vor Ort gibt es noch einige kleine Höhlen zu entdecken.
So wie auch in der heutigen Zeit Riffe in den Meeren Sammelpunkte des Lebens sind, waren die Riffe der Zechstein-Zeit die Heimat einer vielfältigen und bunten Lebenswelt. Ihre Überreste finden wir heute als Fossilien im Gestein.

 The natural landmark “Clydenberg“ is under nature conservancy since 1937. The area belongs to the Permian reef on the southern edge of the Orla valley. The reefs appear in big variety around the Orla valley and was built in prehistoric times as hard, enormous lime reefs from so-called bryozoa. These animalcules were for example haptophytes, ostracods, brachiopods and also fishes.
The stone, accrued over a long time from the shells and remains of this animalcules is also called “biodetritic marl lime”. It is a stone that easily crumbles in water and contains an enormous biodiversity, like no other stone from the period of the upper Permian. This porous limestone was called cave limestone in former times. You can explore some of the caves on site.
As today the reefs in the oceans are meeting points of life the reefs of the Permian were home for a diverse and pied living environment. Today we find the remains as fossils in stone.
