I was rather preturbed recently when, at the last Cheesy event,
I was unable to convince any of my fellow cachers to wait at
Cheddars for me to join the party late. You see, I write for the
newspaper and at the 8 p.m. start of the event I was on an
assignment. I called at the completion of my work and wanted to
meet for a late round of drinks around 11 p.m. But instead I drank
alone as no one was willing to stay that late.
Boo hoo! Wa wa, oracle! Tougher things in life happen everyday.
We're all grown ups here and it's no big deal. Everyone seems to
have children, and some even grandchildren, and responsibilities,
and the works. Who am I to judge?
But it is only 11 p.m. on a Friday night after all! Let's not
pop out our dentures and swap for a fresh Dependz just yet!
One of the greatest parts of geocaching is that it reawakens
that childish thrill of treasure hunting in us all. For even the
briefest of moments, we are all Peter Pans.
So in honor of celebrating that youthful vibrance, I am throwing
myself the event I never got to attend. Hosted at the Peter Pan
Diner on the southeast corner of Oakland Park Boulevard and Dixie
Highway. Like most of our caches, this place is 24/7. We have one
in our "Walt's Vault" series hidden here actually (GC205T5). The
event will begin late, at 2 AM. Yup, 2 AM on a Tuesday
night/Wednesday morning. While I am likely dining alone, all who
attend will be treated to coffee on me. Perhaps a light breakfast
too. I will place some new night-friendly caches in the area and
after breakfast we can head out for some night caching.
Since the challenge is to attend so late, the reward is a 4/1
find. I will also be releasing a fresh puzzle and all who attend
will be offered an extra hint for the solution.
Don't let a silly thing like responsibility slow you down! Don't
you remember being in college and pulling an all-nighter? I myself
work at 8 AM Wednesday morning. But sometimes in life you have to
stay up all night for no plausible reason, cache your neighborhood,
and tough out a day of work on no sleep. This helps reminds us we
are alive, and maybe we're not so old, predictable and boring after
all!
Congrats to "141" for the FTF. Sorry the prize turned out to be
untrackable. Check yer stats now as a make up prize.
