Geocache Description:

An easy cache that forms part of the Shipwreck Series. For the series methodology and more info visit SS: Shipwreck Series via the related web page link.

The SS Camphill was a British steel screw steamship of 3,988 tons, built in 1906 by Ropner & Son, Stockton. She was wrecked on 27 March 1913 in thick mist while on a voyage from Bassein, Burma, to Buenos Aires with a cargo of rice.

Three men died when the main steam-pipe burst.

Some of the houses in Napier and Bredasdorp have beams from the hatch covers.
