Geocache Description:

WHITE'S MILL
ca 1907 to 1949
In 1896 Henry White bought 100 acres of virgin bush north of Sideroad 10 in Uxbridge Township from his wife's grandfather . A few years later he bought another 60 acres on the south side from a lumberman who had no more use for it. Still later he bought a farm in Lot 9 which was nothing but hills. That gave him a 248 A property on which he operated a portable steam sawmill while in his spare time he worked at dredging out a pond with slush scrapers and his team of horses.
It took him 10 years to make a 15 acre spring fed pond. In 1921 he bought a water wheel and a year later he was the proud owner of a water powered sawmill which was cutting 200 000 board feet of lumber a year in its heyday.
His son Bob sold the sawmill to Dr. Alan Secord in 1949 when lung congestion was getting the better of him but he stayed on as farm manager and continued to operate the mill part time until 1963.

Sky Hills Pet Cemetery 1949 - 1997

Dr. Alan Secord, a Toronto veterinarian started the pet cemetery on his property when his pet cocker spaniel died. Since then animals from all over North America have been brought there by their grieving owners. The list includes cats, budgies, skunks, even a horse and an 81 year old parrot.

Sideroad 10 south of Goodwood is now called Secord Road and the property now in the care of the TRCA is part of the Secord Forest and Wildlife Area. The cache is located about a 10 min. walk along the blue ORTA trail starting on the north side of the parkng lot.
You won't need tweezers but nimble fingers are mandatory, especially when replacing the log.

The title of this cache was inspired by a cow that came over to stare at me while I was stashing the cache.
