Geocache Description:

This is a nice easy walk to a off set cache placed at Mierystock Tunnel, which is on flat paths and is a cyclists route through the forest. The cache is a snap/snap box in a camo bag.

The 242 yds long Mierystock tunnel was on the Lydbrook branch of the Severn & Wye Railway and last saw a passenger train in 1929.Tragedy struck during 1893 when a ganger surrendered his life to a locomotive. The Northern End off the tunnel was covered over with waste and this side bricked up as it was seen as unsafe back in the 1970s On 1st February 2005 hard graft was heard rumbling through the trees. Financed from their own pockets Locals tried to get the tunnel reopened for cyclists to use and cleared colliery waste covering the northern entrance to reveal the Dated key stone, but they were soon stopped.ITV’s People’s Millions - a competition backed by lottery cash - was offering £50,000 grants to worthwhile community projects,A promotional film made the case for Mierystock come good when Viewers voted in their thousands ,the cheque was given live in a local pub,The men then cleared 30,000 tonnes of colliery waste. But the tunnel remains bricked up after all the hard work the locals put in so cyclists could bypass the busy road, you can find a little bit about there work from the link above.....It's main use now! seams to be making a easier route for a brook and a pretty water fall.

Make your way to the co ords above! If you are walking from the parking spot take care of the busy A4136 (there is a small path just off the side of road)

Then work out these simple clues from the sign------

Q1--what is your Alt?= A B C

Q2--how many holes in the sleepers have 'no' bolts in?=D

Q3--what number is the 12th letter on the sign in the alphabet A being 1?=E
