Geocache Description:

The above coordinates are not that of the cache. You must do a little research on this “World’s Smallest Mountain Range”. The only hazards you will find will be muggles but that should really not be an issue. You will know where to look once at ground zero.

A = The highest peak of the Sutter Buttes, South Butte, reaches about 2,(A)30 feet above sea level.

B = The mountains are about 1(B) miles from north to south and east to west.

C = On April (C), 2005, the State Park and Recreation Commission classified the Sutter Buttes project at its regular hearing in Sacramento, California. The newest unit in the California State Park System was classified a “State Park,” recognizing its significant natural, cultural, geologic, scenic, and recreational resource values. The name of the park was not determined, until more information could be obtained on the various names and historical events associated with the site.

D = In 19(D)3, a missile silo complex containing three separate Titan I ICBM missiles was constructed near the base of the Buttes.

E = In 2003, the California Department of Parks and Recreation purchased a 1,78(X) acre tract in Peace Valley toward the north side of the Buttes with the intent of developing it for public access. ((((X) + 1 = (E))))

F = Since 192(Y), the State of California had considered purchasing the Sutter Buttes from the land owners for protection and public use. ((((Y) - 5 = (F))))

Some other interesting facts about the Sutter Buttes:

The Sutter Buttes hold the title of being the world's smallest mountain range.

The Buttes are named for John Sutter, who received a large land grant from the Mexican government.

The Sutter Buttes are a small circular complex of eroded volcanic lava domes which rise as buttes above the flat plains of the Central Valley.

Public access to the Sutter Buttes is limited. Much of the land is privately held by cattle and sheep ranchers, but a number of naturalists and local organizations, including the Middle Mountain Foundation and the Yuba Historical Society, lead hikes through most areas.

The Maidu, who lived in the shadow of the Buttes for thousands of years, called them Esto Yamani, which means "the Middle Mountain", the Wintun called the Sutter Buttes Onolai.

As always… Enjoy.
