Roll Out the Barrels! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Krypton: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Given what I do for a living, I spend a fair amount of time in this place -- and on top of that, there just aren't nearly enough caches in the Watsonville area! So, without further ado ...

ROLL OUT THE BARRELS!

The Santa Cruz area is packed with history for Sierra Nevada. In fact, the very first tap handle anywhere in the country outside of San Francisco was at the Catalyst in Downtown Santa Cruz! So Sierra's got a long history with this, their local Distributor, Elyxir Distributing here in Watsonville.

Coincidentally, 2010 not only marks Sierra Nevada's 30th Anniversary, but it also marks Elyxir Distributing's 20th Anniversary. I wanted to highlight these guys because 20 years in ANY business, especially for a 100% locally owned and operated one, is quite a feat! But to do it in the hyper-competitive beer business is incredible! Owned by brothers Glenn and Skip Ely, Elyxir covers a large area -- from Scotts Valley/Felton down past Monterey to Big Sur and as far East as Hollister/Tres Pinos. They sell everything from Sierra Nevada to Coors to Miller to New Belgium to Tecate to Sam Adams to Lagunitas to Pyramid to Deschutes to Red Bull and Guayaki. They've even recently started selling a portfolio of wines and liquors. So if you can drink it, they pretty much sell it! (Just not here -- you'll have to go to your favorite local bar, restaurant or grocery store for that!)

Business hours are Mon-Fri 8-5:30, so if you come to check this one out during those hours a great deal of stealth will be required -- you may wanna try this one at night or on the weekend. Also, be careful and mindful of the big ol' beer trucks thundering by! They've got cold beer to put in the hands of thirsty Santa Cruzers! The container is tiny and well camo'ed, so I've raised the difficulty level a bit, but most seasoned cachers should have no trouble zeroing in on it pretty quickly.

Cheers!
