Geocache Description:

This is the second in the series http://coord.info/GC2J82Z This is a huge hit in Wichita, and Newton can always use another cache!

A cache (location) hidden, um, not hidden at all. Only the cache itself is hidden well. Placed in public right of way next to a park. Coords may be off a bit, as I placed this with my iphone, but that shouldn't prevent you from finding GZ, open your eyes, not a lot of other things that look like GZ here.

This started out (for me anyway) as an e-mail:
Here is an idea that I will not use, so I offer it up for public consumption.

Pick an evergreen tree, suitable as a Christmas tree and to put a Geocache under. Must be plainly visible from a typical street or road (Muggle view).

Get permission for the cache. Hide it.

In the description, ask for all finders to slowly Decorate the tree for Christmas. After January 15??; ask finders to slowly UN-Decorate the tree.

Muggles will wonder why a tree in that park, or country road, is being decorated, one item at a time.

Not an original idea, but one I would go for.

Please help decorate this tree, and listen for the muggles honking!

I have checked and can't find any policy that would prevent anyone from placing items on the tree, will will contact the park dept and see what I can find.

The hint is meant just as that, a hint, it will help out in a general way, not a direct walk up to the cache and dash. Its ONE tree that you need to search, and like many caches, its is camo'd to prevent muggles from finding it.

Remember that this a cache to attract attention to GZ, hence the camo.

Athletic Park is the community park for Newton. The softball diamond (Kelsch Field) is used for adult softball leagues as well as High School Varsity Softball. Fischer Field is the home for Newton High School football and soccer games and in 2006 began hosting the 8-man football Division I and II state championships.

The green spaces in the park and bandshell area are used for many festivals and concerts within the park. The horseshoe pits, tennis courts, basketball court, and sand volleyball pits are used by many for recreation. The basketball court, tennis courts, and horseshoe pits are lighted for use after dark.

There are three playground areas within the park: one on the the north side near the open shelter and horseshoe pits and two more on the south and west sides. The north playground is ADA accessible. The Newton Municipal Pool is also located in Athletic Park and provides a location for the community to cool off in the summer months.

There is a gazebo located in the wooded area in the center of the park that has been used for everything from picnics and weddings to "Shakespeare in the Park." The only artwork in the park is the Mennonite Settler statue located in the gazebo area. The restrooms are open seasonally and are scattered throughout the park.

The northeast end of the park contains a large open shelter as well as a smaller enclosed shelter. The large open shelter has a barbecue grill alongside it and six 8-foot picnic tables under it and can accommodate up to 48 people. The west side of the park has two smaller open shelters that can accommodate approximately 20 people each. For questions regarding the open shelters, gazebo area, and open space, please contact the Newton Park Department at 316-284-6083. The enclosed shelter, bandshell, football field, and softball field may be reserved through the Newton Recreation Commission at 316-283-7330. More picnic tables and trash barrels can be provided upon request. For the convenience of the community the shelters and restrooms are located in close vicinity to the playgrounds within the park. Athletic Park is also the only City park that allows camping.
