Cape Verde Cabo Verde(updated 11-3-2013)
The Republic of Cape Verde (Portuguese: Cabo Verde) is a republic located on an archipelago in the Macaronesia ecoregion of the North Atlantic Ocean, off the western coast of Africa.
The previously uninhabited islands were discovered and colonized by the Portuguese in the fifteenth century (though there may have been earlier discoveries), and attained independence in 1975.
Cape Verde was uninhabited when the Portuguese arrived in 1460 and made the islands part of the Portuguese empire. Due to its location off the coast of Africa, Cape Verde became an important watering station, then sugar cane plantation site, and later a major hub of
the trans-atlantic slave trade that would later form the contemporary African Diaspora.
Cape Verde is divided in to a northern island group and a southern island group.
The northern group is made up of Boa Vista, Sal, Santa Luzia, Santo Antão, São Vicente and São Nicolau Islands while the southern group is made up of Maio, Brava, Fogo and Santiago islands.
Santo Antao is entirely made up of volcanic material and its mountains are composed of basalt. The structure of Santo Antao is dominated by enormous and steep basalt mountains, which
are divided by large dry valleys (Ribeiras). These valleys where made by drain of rainwater
during the volcanic genesis. The Ribeiras or arroyos are one of those geographic features of
Cabo Verde and you´ll find plenty Ribeiras at Santo Antao.
In these Dry Valleys you`ll find no, or only very few water. Nevertheless on the windward side (luff side) of the island there exists a lot of agriculture in the Riberas with water from groundwater and springs.
The Cache.
The cache is hidden on the Island São Antão were our friend Edgard was born in 1938.
We visited this beautiful island in octobre of 2010.
There is only an earthcache ( GC1YRKK) on the other side of the island.
So we think it is a good idea to place a cache on this side a the island.
You don't need to enter the garden of the landowner who give permission
He has helped to hide the cache.
You have to search in the wall. But be carefull you don't damage the wall.
The cache is little plastic can with a micro inside. Update 20-01-2016. The cache is replaced. It's film canister.

If you think the coordinates on the site aren't correct, please send me a message. Because the cache has disappeared serveral times the cache is now hidden at a few distant to the left.
