Wirral Way - Sandy Lane Bridge
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This is a two stage multi located on the Wirral Way footpath near
Sandy lane bridge close to West Kirby. The Wirral Way is a path on
the track of an old railway that goes from West Kirby to Hooton..
This is the location of the old Kirby Park railway station that
served largely as a school stop for the nearby Calday Grange
Grammar School. The station opened on 1 October 1894 and closed on
5 July 1954 (though it continued to be used for school purposes
until 1956). The track was then used for freight transportation and
driver training until its closure on 7 May 1962. Within 2 years the
track was lifted and the station had been demolished. It
wasn’t until 1973 that the route became the Wirral Way
footpath and part of Wirral Country Park, which was the first such
designated site in Britain
When you find the stage, it has the Co-ordinates for the final
cache. Please take care to replace both the stage and the cache
EXACTLY as you found them. Both stages can be done in under quarter
of an hour; however this is entirely dependent upon how quickly you
locate the first stage. I am expecting a few DNFs, and for others,
multiple visits, so please be honest in your logs. Parking is
available close by on York Avenue, and there are steps down to the
Wirral way close to where York Avenue joins Sandy Lane. Please be
vigilant at all times as this is a very popular path for both
walkers and cyclists.
