No inicio da década de 60, com o eclodir da luta armada nas
províncias ultramarinas, a FAP foi obrigada a alterar o seu plano
de aquisições, tendo sido colocado a enfase no desenvolvimento de
uma força aérea táctica, com unidades operacionais e de cooperação
com o exército e um comando de suporte logístico apropriado. O
re-equipamento dos Transportes Aéreos Militares começou em 1960,
com a aquisição de seis aviões Nord 2502-A Noratlas à companhia
aérea Francesa.A partir de Setembro 1977, todos os Noratlas ainda
em serviço na FAP foram declarados como excedentes e as suas
funções passaram a ser desempenhadas pelos Aviocars e o par de
C-130 Hércules.Esta aeronave (N. 2501 Noratlas 6419) foi
bombardeada a 13 de Novembro de 1975 pela Frente de Libertação do
Arquipélago da Madeira, organizadora terrorista paramilitar, cujo
principal objetivo era conseguir a independência da Madeira, de
Portugal Continental. A fuselagem reside acima do aeroporto na
freguesia da Água de Pena no concelho de Machico.

In the beginning of the 60s, with the hatch of the armoured
fight in the overseas provinces, the PAF was obliged to change
their plane of acquisitions. The emphasis was the development of a
tactic air force, with operational units and of cooperation with
the army and appropriate logistics support units. The reappearing
of the Military Air Transports began in the 60s, with the
acquisitions of 6 Nord 2502-A Noratlas from the French air company.
From September, 1977, all Noratlas still in service in the PAF were
declared as surplus and their functions became to be done by the
Aviocars and the pair of C-130 Hércules. This aircraft (N. 2501
Noratlas 6419) was bombed in November 13th , 1975 by the Liberation
Front of the Madeira Islands, paramilitary terrorist organizer,
which main objective was the independence of Madeira from Portugal.
Its fuselage lies north of the airport in the parish of Água de
Pena, county of Machico.
