My family calls this area Stoney Lonesome. My grandpa ran the Otis (yes, the elevator people) farm not far from here and it was here, in these fields, that my Aunt Laura earned her nickname Jake. During World War II, my mother went to Schenectady to study to be a Navy Cadet Nurse. Aunt Mary found herself married and pregnant shortly after high school. Aunt Jane was still just a kid. That left Laura to help Grandpa on the farm, considering all the boys were off fighting the war. Laura became Grandpa's right hand man or Jake the farm hand. Aunt Jake always had a facination with World War II, owning and reading many books on the subject.
Aunt Jake passed away recently but she had gone geocaching with me two times, maybe three, that I can recall. In fact, there is a geocache located only 100 feet from where her couch used to be. Now there is another one located about 100 feet in the other direction too. After she moved to the nursing home in Oneonta, the deal with my mother was I'll drive if I can find two geocaches during the course of the trip. She didn't understand it, but Aunt Jake thought geocaching was neat.
About the cache- nothing fancy here. Easy find at a crossroads. BYOP. It's really just sentimental for me to remember my Aunt Jake. Thanks for reading about her. She was really a wonderful lady and I will miss her deeply.
