The Settlers of Dona Ana County is based on one of our favorite games, the Settlers of Catan. In the game, you must accumulate 5 different resources (Wood, Brick, Grain, Sheep, and Stone) that allow you to purchase constructions (Roads, Ships, Settlements, Cities, and Development) that help you win the game.
In this Geocache version, you will seek out resource caches that will lead you to construction caches; coordinates for the location of construction caches are located in the resource caches. The “cost” of constructions is as follows:
Road = One Wood & One Brick
Ship = One Wood & One Sheep
Settlement = One Wood, One Brick, One Sheep & One Grain
City = Three Stone & Two Grain
Development = One Sheep, One Grain, & One Stone
Aqueduct = Two Stone & One Desert
Finally, you want to achieve victory. You do so by finding the Victory cache, discovered by finding each of the 6 resource caches. This is an epic journey that will take at least a whole day to complete. And epic it will be! This isn’t called Settlers of Dona Ana County for no reason. You will travel all over our county, seeking out the resource and subsequently the construction caches.
Some caches are large enough to take and leave items, things that reflect the theme of this entire game, such as items representing wood, brick, grain, sheep, or stone (or the constructions they create), while others are small and may require tweezers.
Of course, you can also just seek out the individual resource caches but if you don’t follow through and finish the whole quest, that’s seven less caches to log! Happy hunting!

The Settlers of Dona Ana County must construct their Settlements out of Wood for building, Sheep for food and cloth, Grain for food, and Bricks for building and defense. This cache contains the Brick resource needed to “build” your Settlement and thus contains one-quarter of the information needed to find your Settlement. The Settlement Wood, Sheep, and Grain contains the other three parts. This cache is hint and log only so BYOP. Once you also find the Settlement Wood, Sheep & Grain, you will have the information needed to discover the Settlement cache.
