King Billy Cache (Canterbury) Traditional Cache
King Billy Cache (Canterbury)
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This is a simple cache placed on King Billy Island Scenic Reserve.
It is not safe for children. Please be aware that there are many birds nesting on this island, and at various times of the year the birds may be quite protective. TAKE CARE NOT TO DISTURB THE NESTS
There are many rodent traps around, but they are easy to see. Do not take geomutts with you as poisonous bait is regularly used.
This island is used as a predator trap 'stepping stone' island between Quail Island and the mainland, and has scenic reserve status.
It is a nesting area for Black Backed Gulls (Karoro), and Pied Shags (Koau).
You can get the ferry across to Quail Island and walk across to King Billy Island at low tide - or you can go by boat, kayak, swim or even windsurf! Just remember that the area between Quail Island and King Billy Island is just about high and dry at low tide, so BE CAREFUL if you take a boat!
