The original cache has gone missing, probably due to tropical storm Lee. It has been replaced with a temporary container until one similar to the original can be substituted.
This is the traditional put-in for the whitewater section of the Codorus Creek. This creek is affectionately known to locals as the Inky Stinky because of its tea-brown color and rather unpleasant smell. From here at the route 24 put-in to the takeout at Codorus Furnace the creek winds for 4.4 miles and provides some exciting Class II and III rapids with names like Buckshot Rapids, Upper Dees and Lower Dees. The excitement starts slowly with the first mile being mostly flat water and builds to a crescendo in the middle before winding down to a more predictable pace above the takeout. *CAUTION* This is not an excursion for beginner paddlers. Anyone tackling this piece of water must have whitewater equipment and experience. Paddlers should travel in groups with other experienced paddlers with proper rescue equipment. I have seen destroyed or sunk boats on more than one occassion along the way. The creek travels through a rough gorge and there is no suitable takeout until you reach the Furnace. Parking is near the bridge next to the sewer plant, (yes, this adds to the sweet aroma). HAVE FUN GUYS!
