Crater Lake Cache

# Information about the „Crater Lake Game Sanctuary“

Crater Lake Game Sanctuary is a green soda lake at the bottom of an extinct volcano on the western side of Lake Naivasha and north of the village of Kongoni, with many trails including one for hikers along the steep but diminutive crater rim. Crater Lake Game Sanctuary nature trails lead through the vegetation around the crater with plenty of wildlife including over 170 species of birds. Besides the impressive 170 bird species recorded here, giraffes, zebras and other plains wildlife are also regular residents. Like Hell’s Gate National Park it is allowed to explore this Park on foot. While walking, remember that buffaloes lurk in the woods.

# Who we are

We are two Swiss guys on a world around trip. My uncle showed us this very beautiful place. So we decide to hide a geocache there. The Geocache will be maintained by my uncle who lives in Kenya.

# How to get there

Crater Lake Game Sanctuary is less than one hour drive from Naivasha and less than two hour drive from Nairobi, partly over a very dusty dirt road, but a 2WD vehicle will do it when you are a good driver. (We was there with 2WD) You have to pay an entrance fee at the gate when you are not a local ; )

# How to get to the Cache

From the entrance follow the signs to the „View Point“ or ask a ranger ; ) You can park your car at the following coordinates:

Parking lot: 0° 46.9346‘ S / 36° 15.4803‘ E

or directly by the Crater Lake Lodge.

After you park your car go up to the crater rim and follow the GPS coordinates to the cache. The Cache is near the rim not down in the crater ; )

Take care of your child’s if you search the Cache with them!
