À Descoberta da Cidade de Tavira
A história de Tavira perde-se no tempo. As escavações na “colina genética” indicam a presença fenícia e de outros povos da antiguidade. Entre os séculos VIII e XIII Tavira foi dominada pelos árabes, até à sua conquista, 1242, pelos cavaleiros da Ordem de Santiago, comandadas por D. Paio Peres Correia. Após concessão de um novo foral, em 1504, por D. Manuel I, este rei elevou-a a cidade, em 1520. No século XVI era o principal porto comercial e centro populacional do Algarve. Cidade de muitas igrejas e conventos, cheia de recantos e encantos, atravessada por um rio, Tavira permite uma viagem pelo tempo na tranquilidade de um clima ameno.

Esta cache permite um passeio descontraído pela zona ocidental da cidade de Tavira. Esta cache foi projectada para ser feita a pé ou de bicicleta. São livres de fazer como quiserem, mas caso queiram fazer o percurso nalgum veículo motorizado, tal não vai ser possível, pois em alguns troços não é possível o trânsito destes veículos ou irão em sentido contrário. È uma cache para ser feita com calma e descontracção, e acima de tudo com tempo, muito tempo.

A – Estatua dos combatentes
Bem-vindos a Tavira. O percurso começa no centro de Tavira, no meio desta bonita praça.

Em frente à estátua dos combatentes encontra-se o edifício dos Paços do Concelho, o qual apresenta na fachada o brasão da cidade.

No canto dos Paços do Concelho é possível observar uma cabeça esculpida. Dizem que se trata da cabeça do cavaleiro D. Paio Peres Correia, o qual conquistou a cidade aos mouros. Observando a altura da cabeça, que segundo as crónicas corresponde à altura dele, ou o senhor era bem alto ou então estava em cima do cavalo. Qual a vossa opinião?

H – Igreja de São José do Hospital
Neste largo situa-se duas importantes igrejas de Tavira. Junto á Igreja de São José do Hospital, situava-se o antigo Hospital do Espírito Santo de Tavira. As origens desta igreja remontam ao século XV. Esta foi reconstruída na sequência do terramoto de 1755 e nela se encontra um exemplar de retábulo pintado em “trompe l’oeil” (ilusão óptica).

Neste largo situa-se duas importantes igrejas de Tavira. Esta igreja pertencia ao antigo convento de São Francisco, fundado em finais do século XIII.

Quartel construído de raiz em 1795 para aquartelamento de tropas, de influência pombalina, é imponente pela sua dimensão. O quartel do exército já esteve ao abandono, mas hoje em dia está de novo activo.

Discovering the City of Tavira
The history of Tavira is lost in time. The excavations in the "genetic hill" has indicated Phoenician presence and other peoples of antiquity. Between the eighth and thirteenth centuries Tavira was dominated by the Arabs, until its conquest in 1242, by the Knights of Santiago, commanded by Don Paio Peres Correia. After the granting of a new charter in 1504, by D. Manuel I, the king raised it to City status in 1520. In the sixteenth century it was the main commercial port and population center of the Algarve. City of many churches and convents, full of corners and charms, crossed by a river (River Gilão), Tavira allows a journey in time in the tranquility of a warm climate.
Behind the Bridge
This cache allows a casual stroll through the western town of Tavira. This cache was designed to be done on foot or by bicycle. You are free to do as you wish, but if they want to do the route in a motorised vehicle, this is not going to be possible because in some sections traffic will be reversed. It\'s a cache to be done with calm and relaxation, and above all with long, long time.

Two important churches of Tavira are located in this square.
Near the Church of St. Joseph\'s Hospital, stood the old Hospital of the Holy Spirit of Tavira. The origins of this church date back to the fifteenth century. This was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1755 and in it you can find a copy of the altarpiece painted "trompe l\'oeil" (optical illusion).

In this square is located two important churches in Tavira. This church belonged to the former convent of San Francisco, founded in the late thirteenth century.

The Headquarters was built from scratch in 1795 for quartering of troops, the influence of Pombal, its dimension is impressive. The army headquarters has been abandoned, but today is active again.

The church of the former convent of Santo António was started in 1612. The simple features represents three sets of figures in clay, almost life-size, representing scenes from the life of Saint Anthony.
