Geocache Description:

Medium-size cache located near the trailhead of the southshore trail.

Trinidad Lake State Park

Day use fee or Colorado state park pass required.

Follow the Southshore Trail for approximately 2.5 miles along the south shore of the lake for a scenic view of both the lake and the distant Culebra Mountain Range and Spanish Peaks.

You will notice that the Southshore Trail parallels an old railroad bed. This railroad bed, which no longer has rails, was used to transport coal from mines in the Purgatoire Valley to railheads in Trinidad during the mid-1800's through the early 1900's. The railroad bed is still private property, please do not trespass.
