The first in a series of three waterfalls on S. Fork Cripple Creek.
Found this place in 1990 while exploring, and have been coming back ever since. We called the creek three falls since we had no map and didn't know it's real name. Now I do but find it boring.If you continue up the creek you'll see the name fits. I havn't been up to the second or third falls in at least 18 years, but when I was younger my friends and I would hike up until we could see the third slide type falls and then go uphill on the East side of the creek. We would come out on the spur road that is now home to the suprise ridge cache. It was a hard hike with no trail at all. Getting to the second fall isn't too hard but getting above it is. It is at least twice the height of the first, and at least half the time we would turn around here. The cache is ment to show the cool doorway to the top of the first falls and hopefully open it up to someone adventurous enough to mabe place a cache at the second falls, or third? Falls are visable from the pipeline but there's no trail. I park at the gravel pit to the east near the extreme tubing cache, and follow the pipe until I cross "three falls" creek. It's 100 to150 yards from the pipe to the falls. Then head left along the cliff. You'll see the way up. Cache is at the top of the falls. Cords. are iffy so check hint. No need to cross creek or climb. One could also continue down to the water tressle cache.(All caches mentioned thanks to Flowerbug)
