During 2010 Garmin introduced a new technological advance for geocachers - the Chirp. In December of that year we thought it was time Hamilton cachers got a chance to try their new toys with the latest technology.
There is no cache to find at the listed waypoint.
If you run a Garmin, bring along your Montanta, Oregon, Dakota, GPSMap (78, 64,or 62), Etrex 30, or Fenix. Then go to setup>geocaching and switch on the “Chirp Scanning” and go to the published waypoint….. The rest will be revealed!
Make sure you have all fitness device scanning off, or the chirp scanning will be unreliable.
Pre 2018 we included an alternative option to get to the final on this puzzle, using triangulation from other caches - this was difficult to maintain as cache hides came and went, and was aimed at making it fair for non-Garmin searchers. In 2018 we find there is a range of cellphone apps available to read chirps - our preferred one is called "Chirp" and released by WLSoft (it is free on the Android store) - you will need an Ant+ capable phone, but my Samsung S7 ans S8 work fine.
Enjoy a wander in a little tramped reserve area while you search.
Remember there is nothing to be found at the published point, you need to get out yout technology at that spot.…
A Parking waypoint is included, DO NOT TRY TO APPROACH FROM THE BUSY COBHAM DRIVE HIGHWAY.
In 2015 we have discovered that the grass track from the end of the access road to the listed waypoint is no longer maintained, so the best route is across the flat grassy area over to the North-East corner by the motorway, walk a few metres north on the road grass verge, then down the hill and along the narrow grass strip (terrain 1.5 to the waypoint, and around terrain 2 to the final close by) . In 2018 we find the council has reduced their mowing even further back, so access to the original final waypoint is very difficult, through blackberry. We therefore re-located the final, and re-programmed the chirp.
A tail-head waypoint has been added in Feb 2018, just to indicate the start of the grassy track - is NOT A PARKING WAYPOINT.
Even if the gate at the parking waypoint is open, I suggest you walk, as the budding William Tell’s in the park will lock it when they leave.
You are looking for a 400ml Sistema box.
