BETTER INFO!!!!

It is my belief that Geocaching will aide historians in the future. Some Geocaches have information not recorded and will help keep alive local lore, urban legends or long forgotten events.

During Mare Island’s WWII heyday, 46.000 people worked on the island. Housing was a big problem. About 100 yards west of here were some barracks built to house military personal during this period. There was a ferry dock which would transport personal to the Island. Local lore has is that it was here that survivors of the Port Chicago Disaster were housed during the “Court of Inquiry”. It was after the Court of Inquiry that the ”Port Chicago Mutiny” took place. Read more about it here:

In this description is: ....... (the men were) moved to the Ryder Street Naval Barracks in Vallejo, California, across a short channel from Mare Island, where they were assigned barracks duties with no ship-loading. "

Congratualtions to BigKatz2 of team BigKatz123 for the FTF!
