Geocache Description:

This quick roadside cache was create as part of the Uncle Scrooge Breakfast event.

The cache is located on the outside of the forgotten Fontainebleau cemetery at the intersection of Malibongwe Drive and Rabie Street

If you look over the wall at GZ you will see an old cemetery that is in a very bad state. This is the Fontainebleau cemetery, a 100-year old piece of Randburg’s history, currently used as a residence and toilet for vagrants

On the cusp of Heritage Day 2010, a strange twist of fate led a car through a wall on Malibongwe Drive, casting light on the otherwise inaccessible and forgotten graves of 61 of Randburg’s earliest pioneers.

When the old Randburg Council transferred assets to the City of Johannesburg (CoJ), this cemetery was not listed as a municipal cemetery, so it wasn’t on JCP list for maintenance.

When the Sun local newspaper got in touch with JCP about the cemetery they were led to believe that the rundown cemetery, which is a heritage site, would be put onto their maintenance schedule. Looks like they have a very very long schedule???
