A cache by a hiker for hikers.

I attempted to put a cache on the Stavros Mountain about 3 months
ago. A popular climb that overlooks Stavros. However, the cache was
muggled by what I assume were summer tourist. So I decided to try
something a little different.
This cache is not on any beaten path. It is located on a remote
mountain top about four peaks over from the one I put in Stavros.
First you need to be a confident hiker with a good ability to read
the terrain. You could get stuck very easily on this climb.
For this climb, I took the route up the south face of the hill. I
parked the car along the road to the monastery and cross a slight
hill to get to the bottom of the mountain. Then climbed up to a
point that I could peak the summit of the first mountain. This
point is found at:
N35 34.746
E024 07.522
To far to the right or left you will need climbing gear to peak the
summit. At this point you can rather easily climb up about 30 feet
to reach the top. I then climbed up to the second peak of the hill
behind and tracked the summit to the location of the cache. Once
you get to the cache it is rather easy to find. Great view of
Chania, the airport and all the way to Plantanias on this climb.
Bring a camera
Once I was to the top and stashed the cache, I decided to go down
the east side of the mountain. This was a steep climb down the side
of the hill and then through a valley and a dried creek bed to get
back to the road.
Total Days Hike was: 2.8 miles or 4.5Km
Cache is at: 1350 Feet or 412 M
If you choose to do the better climb on the south face, you can
park at:
N 35 34.294
E024 07.694
You can access the cache from the east side. Easier terrain, but
longer distance. To access it from here park at (beware of the bee
farm):
N35 34.687
E024 08.289
Bring good shoes, long pants and gloves. If you do the entire hike,
expect it to take 2.5 hours.
I have posted a topo route map in the pictures and can send you the
route I took or the track log in .gpx format. Just email me.
Have a good hike, watch your step and stay safe.
Another cache brought to you by K9Nation. A US Navy Sailor.
