This small pond was original dug in the early 1950’s for fire protection. Rural areas were not serviced by fire hydrants and this pond was used as a water source for the local volunteer firefighters to fill up their water tanks. It is now a small wetland providing habitat to species that would not otherwise be found in a red pine forest.
As you pass by, look closely at the edge of the pond to see the tracks of the animals that use this pond for water and food.
