During the fall hunting season remember to exercise caution and wear bright orange clothing.

Congratulations to Canuckeh on the F.T.F.

Dead or dying trees that contain one or more holes or cavities are called just that, Cavity Trees. More than 50 species of birds and mammals depend on cavity trees for nesting, rearing young, feeding, storing food, escaping predators and hibernating.

The mixed red and jack pine stand that were planted on this shallow site were doing so poorly that they had no potential value as a forest product. Because of this, a decision was made to test five different treatments to see which one was quickest at regenerating the area to hardwoods. The treatment used here was “clear cut” or removal of all the pine and leave the tree saplings untouched. Even though this treatment resulted with more trees, they tended to be of poorer quality.
