Conifer plantations do not usually provide good habitat, however providing wildlife habitat can be encouraged by leaving or creating some natural areas within the plantations. In this area an old skid trail, used during the last harvesting operation to haul out to roadside, has been seeded with clover. The clover helps to stabilize the soil and also provides food for deer and rabbits. This area also features cavity trees, snags and seasonal wetlands which attract wildlife species that otherwise might not use the red pine forest.
