Geocache Description:

Quaerere Verum.

The INST-cache is a magnetic nana and it contains only a log so you will need to bring your own pen. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE SCHOOL GROUNDS as you don’t need to. There will be hundreds of school boy muggles around 8.30am and 3.30pm so it may be best to avoid these times.

Have fun, your find should be INSTant.

Royal Belfast Academical Institute is also known as INST and to commemorate it’s Bicentenary year I thought it would be fitting to locate a geocache close to the school.

RBAI or Inst is a non-denominational boys’ grammar school in the centre of Belfast. Founded in 1810 the same year Frédéric François Chopin was born and it continues in its original purpose - to educate boys of all social classes and religious affiliations. The school enjoys high academic, sporting & musical success.

Famous Alumni include
• John Miller Andrews, second Prime Minister of Northern Ireland
• Thomas Andrews, chief designer at Harland and Wolff shipyards and RMS Titanic architect
• Sir Kenneth Bloomfield, former Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, current Chairman of the Board of Governors
• Wesley Burrowes, playwright and screenwriter
• Lord Carswell of Killeen, Law Lord and former Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland
• Colonel Tim Collins, Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment in Iraq during Operation Telic (2001)
• Sir Donald Currie, shipping magnate
• William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, physicist. (The school's Kelvin house is named after him)
• Lord Laird, Ulster Unionist life peer
• Sir Joseph Larmor, Lucasian Professor of Mathematics, Cambridge University 1903-1933. (The school's Larmor house is named after him)
• Michael Longley, poet
• Lord Lowry, former Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland
• Derek Mahon, poet
• Bowman Malcolm (1854–1933), railway civil and mechanical engineer
• Kenneth Montgomery, principal conductor, Ulster Orchestra
• Lembit Öpik, former Liberal Democrat MP
• Christopher Salmon Patterson (1823–1893), judge Supreme Court of Canada
• William Pirrie, Viscount Pirrie, Chairman of Harland and Wolff 1895-1924
• Mark Pollock, blind international rower and entrepreneur
• Brigadier John Alexander Sinton VC, OBE, FRS, MB, DL (1884–1956), doctor, malariologist and recipient of the Victoria Cross

The school commemorated it’s bicentenary by hosting a series of lectures, sporting events, dinners, sporting events and a concert by the school orchestra and choir in the Waterfront hall. A time capsule was buried by the pupils in the school grounds.

School moto Quaerere Verum (seek the truth)

The cache is in the centre of Belfast city, there is on street parking (not free) all around the school and car parks close by. During business hours this area is very busy and best to go on foot. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs close by and lots to see, from The Grand Opera House to Belfast City Hall.

This cache may be suitable for wheelchair users but it is low to the ground.
