Geocache Description:

If you are visiting GBI you have to come to Okupu Bay to see the majestic old Pohutukawa trees. A local told us that the biggest tree was at least 800yrs old as they had found evidence of ash from the Rongitoto eruptions in samples taken from the tree.

Some climbing is involved but look around for the easiest option. There are picnic tables and public BBQ's in the Okupu Reserve and it's a lovely place to spend the day - so enjoy.
