An easy park and grab on the natural barrier between the Atlantic Ocean and Ninigret Pond at East Beach in Charlestown. There is no need to intrude upon the fragile ecosystem on the barrier to find this cache. BYOP!
Years ago, on the beach not far from this cache, we exchanged our first kiss. We placed this cache – our first – on our 10th wedding anniversary. Hence, Firsts and Tenth. (Groundspeak was not the only one celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2010!)
East Beach is one of the prettiest in Rhode Island, and we love going there year round. There are three miles of undeveloped beach frontage. The pond side of the barrier is a great place to take young children swimming because the water is shallow. The pond is also popular with boaters, paddlers and wind surfers.
From Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, there is a fee to park in the daytime. As of 2016, fees have been REDUCED! It’s $6 on weekdays and $7 on weekends for Rhode Island residents, double for out of state residents, half price for seniors. Fee not usually collected late in the day. Open from sunrise to sunset.
