The Fairview Incline which is also known as the Crosstown Incline was built in 1892 with parts that were salvaged from the remodel of the Bellevue Incline which was remodeled in 1890. This incline was known for many firsts as well as significant changes throughout it’s time span. This incline was the shortest of all the inclines coming in at only 633 to 700 feet long. This incline also was the only incline which did not have a resort at its summit. One of it’s firsts was it was the only incline in the city which began to carry streetcars and in the end was carrying fixed cabs. Though it was rumored that there was a drawn up plan for a bottom station at the incline it was never built. Because of having the Fairview Incline this made it possible for residents and visitors both alike to travel from the east side of the city to the west side. There were even convertible cars that were known as the Hiawatha and Maketewah observation cars that traveled the top so people could enjoy the view. Due to a inspection in 1921 the incline was closed to street cars and only passengers were taken up and down the incline.
