Cache Cannon Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

CoyoteTrust: Out hiking in this sloppy, misty fall weather. The mission: to locate remnants brought to this area from the tornado in Washington, IL on 11/17/2013. Covered a vast area and located multiple items.

Anyway, due to lack of interest on this cache, I opted to archive it; this was sort of on a whim and since I was in the area. Sorry to the few who were working on it. The final was located at N41 42.497 W087 54.433; this is west of Bullfrog Lake. One entertaining log was that of a group of 3 non-geocachers who were "very lost" in the woods in 90-degree-plus weather; I assume they were bushwhacking their way thru to stumble upon this. They thought it was cool to find the cache, and I hope they realized that a well-travelled trail was only about 120 feet away. "Do epic sh**" was the last line of their log.

This cache idea was not original, but it was the second similar cache I've made based off 'cannons' or old artillery pieces. Maybe - just-maybe - there will be yet another one. While I don't geocache much anymore, many ideas still present themselves for consideration. Thanks to all visitors.

Geocache Description:

This is a field-solvable puzzle. The clue stage is at a Veterans’ Memorial in Fairmount Hills Cemetery. You may only visit it during cemetery accessible hours, and I don’t know what they are. Here’s a guide: gates are open = go in. Gates are closed = don’t go in. The final cache is NOT located within cemetery boundaries.

(NOTE: During winter months, only the NORTH gate may be open)

This cache is similar to the Duelling Dopes cache I once had, but this is also simpler.

I wanted to hide a new cache, so I loaded up this “big gun” with a nice, round Lock-n-Lock cache, and fired away. To determine where the cache landed, we’ll say:

The total number of wheel spokes = A and The 4-digit year on the granite marker = D

YOUR CALCULATIONS:

276 - A = Your azimuth (bearing)

4672 - D = Your distance in meters

Now navigate to GZ and do your own BDA (Battle Damage Assessment, that is). Actually, I already checked out GZ & it appears nothing was damaged. The cache did, however, cause a field mouse to re-locate. It’ll be fine.
