Geocache Description:

The cache is located on Cumnor Hurst a "Jubilee Wildlife Space". The approach is via a public footpath across a field and through woods. I am indebted to Cumnor Parish Council and Natural England for permission to place this cache.

The cache is a small plastic box and did contain a number of good quality, useful items for swapping (these are now all gone) as well as some cheap toys for kids. The nearest parking place is at the junction of Hurst Lane and the Chilswell bridleway. This is a farm road and is used by large agricultural machines, so be very careful not to obstruct it. The next waypoint is a kissing gate on the north side of the bridleway. From here a public right of way leads south across the field to another set of gates, note this is the only entry point to the "Jubilee Wildlife Space" as all the surrounding land is private. Originally the hill was bare heathland with just seven trees on top, the "Seven Sisters", over the last half century scrub and woodland grew up on the hill and obscured the views from the summit, some of this was removed in 2004 and there are now good views of the Vale of White Horse and the downs to the south and east. As the area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest be careful not to disturb wildlife, do not damage plants or remove geological specimens. Two black Dexter cows are back for the summer grazing. They are quite friendly, and are not dangerous. If the cows are having any problems, or you notice damage to the gates or fences around the Hurst please inform one of the wardens, their contact details are on a notice at the entrance gate.
